Our Hong Kong Foundation (OHKF) was honored to invite Dato’ Seri CHEAH Cheng Hye, Co-Chairman and Co-Chief Investment Officer of Value Partners Group, as the keynote speaker of the event in the “Our Hong Kong Stories” series on 22 Aug, entitled “From Personal Journey to Connecting the World”.
OHKF was pleased to have Daryl Ng Win-kong, Governor of Our Hong Kong Foundation, Deputy Chairman of Sino Group, and Chairman of Hong Kong-ASEAN Foundation, deliver the Opening Remarks.
Dato’ Seri CHEAH Cheng Hye shared his amazing journey from Penang, Malaysia, to Hong Kong. His miraculous career transformation from journalist to entrepreneur, with a can-do spirit, coupled with the opportunities in Hong Kong.
The event attracted around 230 local and overseas attendees, comprising both in-person and online participants. Nearly 20 members of the OHKF fraternity attended, including Bernard Chan, Chairman of OHKF, other Governors, Council Members, and Advisors.
The event was structured as a Fireside Chat, moderated by Nury Vittachi, Editor of fridayeveryday.com, featuring captivating anecdotes from Dato’ Seri CHEAH Cheng Hye and involving Michael Lai, OHKF Public Policy Institute intern, as the youth representative in the conversation, followed by interactive engagement from the audience.



Dato’ Seri CHEAH was born in Penang, Malaysia. He was only 21 years old when he accepted a job in 1974 to come to Hong Kong. He worked as a financial journalist with the Asian Wall Street Journal and Far Eastern Economic Review.
He later became a fund manager, and co-founded Value Partners Group, a listed asset management company now listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. He also met his wife in Hong Kong, and started a family here.
