The Academy of Chinese Studies and the Tencent Foundation co-launched the "Putonghua Fun Learning" educational charity project, which engaged over 100 primary schools and 23,000 students across Hong Kong and Macao. The awards ceremony for the “2025 Hong Kong and Macao Primary School Putonghua Fun Learning Online Challenge” was successfully held on July 2.

The project adopts an innovative model of “philanthropy + technology + culture” to provide Mandarin-themed activities and interactive learning resources for primary school students in Hong Kong and Macao. It supports educational resource sharing and talent development in the Greater Bay Area, leveraging AI speech recognition technology to deliver real-time feedback. By incorporating elements of daily life, urban landmarks, and traditional Chinese culture into personalized, gamified learning experiences, the initiative makes language learning more engaging and cultivates long-term enthusiasm for education.

The awards ceremony was graced by Dr. Jeff Sze, JP, Under Secretary for Education of the HKSAR, who officiated the event. Shanks Yang, Vice President of Tencent Cloud and Head of Tencent Education Solutions, delivered a speech. Dr. Yau Yat, Executive Director of the Academy of Chinese Studies; Mr. Sun Mengjie, Director of Tencent's Interactive Entertainment Group (IEG) Social Value Exploration Center; and representatives from supporting organizations presented awards to the winning students. 40 Putonghua Stars will take part in the Greater Bay Area Youth Cultural Exchange Camp in Shenzhen this October, promoting collaborative learning among students from all three regions.
