Entrepreneurial Innovation x Wellbeing Economy" Seminar
Our Hong Kong Foundation (OHKF) and Association for Wellbeing Economy (AWE) co-hosted the "Entrepreneurial Innovation x Wellbeing Economy" ("企業創新 x 善經濟") seminar on 20 November 2024. Explored the creation of sustainable impact in the economy to reshape future lifestyles, the event attracted over 100 experts and leaders from different sectors to engage in a thought-provoking dialogue.
Bernard Chan, Chairman of OHKF, and Chavalit Tsao, Chairman of AWE, had an in-depth discussion regarding Hong Kong's future roles and the potential and practical solutions of the well-being economy in promoting social development.
In his remarks on the future development of Hong Kong, Bernard Chan underscored the city's distinctive position within the principle of "One Country, Two Systems". Situated at the centre of East-meets-West, Hong Kong enterprises serve as a pivotal connector in fostering economic growth, he added. He highlighted that by implementing the well-being economy, Hong Kong can effectively leverage its influence in the Asia-Pacific region, promoting economic cooperation and cultural exchanges within the region.
According to Chavalit Tsao, national bliss is the ultimate indicator of a country's success, which drives economic development. This is especially important in today's business landscape.
Another key focus of the seminar was the roles of small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Chavalit Tsao recommended Hong Kong SMEs collaborate with Mainland enterprises to achieve mutually beneficial partnerships and a win-win outcome. He indicated that SMEs, as the bedrock of the economy, should proactively engage in the well-being economy and capitalise on their flexibility to pioneer new business models.
During the seminar, the participants shared their experiences and insights and explored how the well-being economy can be realised in practice from different perspectives. Many enterprise representatives opined that the well-being economy is not only a concept but also a practical and opportunity-filled business model. They expressed their desire to enhance their capacity for social responsibility and sustainable development through cooperation with AWE.
Furthermore, the participants generally concurred that, while promoting the well-being economy, Hong Kong enterprises can not only enhance their competitiveness but also become a pivotal force in fostering social cohesion. Beyond that, Hong Kong will be well-positioned to strengthen its ties with domestic and international partners in the Asia-Pacific region and increase its global influence.
