Dr Ricky CHIU

- Chairman & CEO of Phase Scientific International Limited
- Patron of Our Hong Kong Foundation
Dr. Ricky Chiu is the Chairman and CEO of PHASE Scientific International Limited, as well as the lead inventor of the company’s core technology. He has been honored with numerous awards, including the Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World, the Ten Outstanding Young Persons of Hong Kong, the InnoStars Award, the Young Industrialist of Hong Kong Award, and the HKSAR Chief Executive's Commendation for Community Service, in recognition of his pioneering contributions to biotechnology innovation and his notable efforts in combating the COVID-19 pandemic. As a leading innovator in biotechnology, Ricky has made groundbreaking advancements in liquid biopsy and rapid point-of-care diagnostics through the proprietary sample preparation technology he developed. With over 100 granted patents, his technology addresses one of the major bottlenecks in diagnostics—the detection of low-concentration target molecules. By concentrating analytes such as DNA, RNA, proteins, bacteria, and viruses, this innovation enables faster, more accurate, and more cost-effective diagnostic testing. Ricky is among the rare few recognized for excellence in both Eastern and Western scientific and industrial communities. His work has received research funding from world-renowned institutions and FDA approval, while his high-efficiency COVID-19 RNA extraction technology was designated as a “Major Project” by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China. He and the PHASE Scientific team are currently focused on advancing next-generation diagnostics for cancer and infectious diseases. In addition to his entrepreneurial accomplishments, Ricky is committed to academic and professional service. He is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the School of Biomedical Sciences, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is also a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) and a Young Fellow of the Hong Kong Academy of Engineering (HKAE). Ricky holds a Ph.D. in Bioengineering from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
