Our Hong Kong Foundation (OHKF) launched its research report titled "Policy Path to Ageing in Place for Hong Kong: Shaping an Inclusive Housing and Community Landscape" on 10 Apr. In recent years, senior living has become a significant topic in Hong Kong due to the city's rapidly ageing population. Projections suggest that by 2046, over 65s will make up 36% of the population, with a significant majority (over 80%) preferring to age in place. However, Hong Kong's elderly care resources still lean towards institutional care, and support for ageing in place needs to be improved.

Dicky Chow, Head of Healthcare & Social Innovation of OHKF remarked that Inclusive Design can be understood as design for diversity. According to Dicky, the Government could elevate the existing Design Manual and propose concrete design advice to align with the Inclusive Design principles.

He added that once the Design Manual has been revised, the Government should review and update the Buildings Ordinance to make safety-related designs mandatory for all housing projects.
