OHKF Insight Forum - Exploring Digital Finance: Developing Hong Kong as a Pioneer in Stablecoin Regulation
(17 July 2025, Hong Kong) Our Hong Kong Foundation (OHKF) Insight Forum presented an inspiring session titled “Exploring Digital Finance: Current Landscape of Stablecoin, e-RMB, and RMB Internationalisation”. The Forum explored the evolving landscape of digital finance and global currency trends.
Mrs Rita Fan, Special Counsellor of Our Hong Kong Foundation and Council Member of Hong Kong Chronicles Institute, welcomed the audience as the opening speaker. The Forum was honoured to have the gracious presence of Mr Evan Auyang, Advisor of Our Hong Kong Foundation and Group President of Animoca Brands, as the keynote speaker; and Mr Michael Lau, Chairman of Consensus, as the panellist. The panel session was moderated by Mr Kenny Shui, Vice President of Our Hong Kong Foundation and Executive Director of Public Policy Institute.
Addressing the audience with an opening speech, Mrs Rita Fan said, “As we gather in this vibrant city, Hong Kong, a place where East meets West and tradition meets innovation, I am reminded of the unique role our community plays in shaping the dialogue around progress and opportunity. Our city has always thrived on diversity, resilience and an unwavering spirit to embrace change. Today’s event is a testament to that spirit, bringing together thought leaders, industry experts and passionate individuals to explore the evolving landscape of finance and technology.” She further expressed, “Our mission is to serve as a bridge - connecting the world, connecting people, ideas and opportunities for the betterment of Hong Kong and the region. In these times of rapid change, it is more important than ever to come together, to listen, to share and to learn from one another.”
Mr Evan Auyang expressed in his speech, “We believe that stablecoins will ultimately dominate the world in foreign exchange trading, because they are available 24/7 for settlement. Also, it will ultimately neutralise the financial system.” He further stated that, “Because no one has regulated stablecoin yet, Hong Kong is at the forefront. There is absolutely a regulatory competition on stablecoin. You will have much more of that financial language and liquidity dominance within the global financial system.”
In the panel discussion session, Mr Michael Lau said, "Hong Kong is this convergence of an incredible amount of energy, business, as well as just a destination in and of itself, which succeeds in the pursuit of being a Web3 hub. Bullish, a regulated and audited global cryptocurrency exchange, provides liquidity, while the role of Consensus, one of the world’s largest gatherings of the global Blockchain, Web3 communities, is to provide visibility. With these two dimensions, we’re hopeful we can contribute more towards that Web3 hub position."
The Forum attracted a full house of attendees, including entrepreneurs, C-suite executives and industry pioneers.
