Jockey Club Exploring Chinese Culture Ambassador Programme Commendation Ceremony: First 179 Graduates to Serve Society, Uphold Integrity and Innovation
(17 Aug 2025, Hong Kong) Funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, organised by Our Hong Kong Foundation (OHKF) and implemented by OHKF’s Academy of Chinese Studies, Jockey Club Exploring Chinese Culture Ambassador Programme held a Commendation Ceremony at Tai Kwun in Central today, recognising outstanding cultural ambassador trainees who have completed the programme and commending their spirit in learning and passing down heritage of Chinese culture.
Today’s commendation ceremony featured the gracious presence of Ms Rosanna Law, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism of the HKSAR Government; Mr Lester Huang, Steward of The Hong Kong Jockey Club; Mr Bernard Chan, Chairman of Our Hong Kong Foundation; Mr Lee Yeh-kwong, Honorary Chairman of the Council of the Academy of Chinese Studies; Professor Lee Chack-fan, Chairman of the Council of the Academy of Chinese Studies; Dr Jane Lee, President of Our Hong Kong Foundation; Dr Yau Yat, Executive Director of the Academy of Chinese Studies and Mr Joel Poon, Vice President, Corporate Communications of Our Hong Kong Foundation.
The three-year programme engages secondary school students in discovering the richness of Chinese culture through four levels of learning activities: interactive lectures, workshops, focused training, and service learning. In the 2024/25 academic year, 23 schools participated, with a total of 114 interactive lectures and workshops held, involving over 10,700 students. The programme also selected cultural ambassadors for in-depth training, to become "Outstanding Cultural Ambassadors." Thanks to the arrangement of the welfare organisations, the ambassadors provided voluntary services at elderly centres to promote Chinese culture.
To showcase students' learning outcomes and raise public awareness and appreciation of traditional culture, a Chinese Culture funfair was held from August 15 to 18. Through hands-on workshops, exhibitions of students' works, and sharing of their learning and achievements over the past year, the event aimed to enhance students' understanding and practical skills in traditional Chinese culture, strengthen their cultural literacy and expressive abilities through practice, and further foster cultural confidence. A commendation ceremony was held on August 17 to recognise 179 outstanding cultural ambassador trainees who completed the programme, presenting them with commendation/appointment certificates to honour their efforts in learning and passing down cultural heritage.
In her opening remarks, Ms Rosanna Law said “Outstanding cultural ambassadors who have completed the Programme should continue to actively give back to society and promote Chinese culture. They are encouraged to enthusiastically participate in various activities that promote Chinese culture, personally experience the beauty of Chinese traditions, and actively share this with friends. By inviting others to join, they can ensure the legacy of Chinese culture is passed on within the community.”
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Lester Huang said: “Jockey Club Exploring Chinese Culture Ambassador Programme deepens students’ understanding and practice of Chinese culture through interactive, multi-level learning experiences. It nurtures cultural confidence, humanistic qualities and positive values. The programme is expected to benefit over 75,000 students, educators and members of the community.”
Mr Bernard Chan said “The three-year programme, funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, aligns with one of OHKF’s five core missions: promoting Chinese culture. It provides secondary school students with opportunities for in-depth experiences and practical engagement with Chinese culture, enabling them to transform from learners into inheritors of cultural heritage. Through this process, they can bring what they have learned into the community, build cultural confidence, and contribute to society.”
The funfair also brought together the programme’s partners to engage with the public through interactive Chinese cultural experience booths, traditional Chinese cultural performances, and various other activities. These diverse formats allowed the public to actively participate and experience the profound heritage of Chinese culture. featuring a range of traditional crafts, enabling participants to get up close and learn the essence of these skills. Through cultural experiences and learning, the funfair aims to enhance the public sense of national identity and foster cultural pride.

Funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, organised by the Our Hong Kong Foundation (OHKF), and implemented by OHKF Academy of Chinese Studies, the programme will be launched in 2024 and run for three years.
This programme is rooted in the rich traditional of Chinese culture. It selects representative cultural themes and, through a variety of learning activities, broadens the opportunities for secondary school students to experience representative elements of Chinese culture personally. It immerses participants in a learning atmosphere, allowing them to explore the essence and discover the beauty of traditional Chinese culture.
As of the current academic year (2024/25), Jockey Club Exploring Chinese Culture Ambassador Programme has trained a total of 179 ‘Outstanding Chinese Culture Ambassadors,’ who have been proactively promoting Chinese culture in the community.
