Our Hong Kong Foundation makes “Global Top Think Tanks” List
Our Hong Kong Foundation has been named one of the “Top Think Tanks Worldwide”, marking the first time in history that a Hong Kong-based think tank is selected for such category under the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program (TTCSP), Lauder Institute, University of Pennsylvania.
A relatively young establishment with only three years of history, the Foundation is ranked 173rd out of 7815 U.S. and non-U.S. peers in the 2017 Global Go-To Think Tank Index Report. Among all think tanks in China, India, Japan, and the Republic of Korea, it has moved upward from 60th in 2016 to 53rd place in 2017.
The Foundation is also recognised as one of the “Top Domestic Economic Policy Think Tanks” (133rd place) for covering a wide range of topics on macro- and micro-economics and as one of the “Think Tanks to Watch in 2018” (104th place) for excellent research and innovative advances within the past 24 months.
Dubbed a “think tank of think tanks,” TTCSP examines the evolving role and character of public policy research organisations, and regularly conducts research on the role policy institutes play in governments and in civil societies around the world. The 2017 index is the 11th edition of an annual undertaking to identify centres of excellence in public policy research, bridge the gap between knowledge and policy-making, and create a global community of think tanks.
“We feel very honoured by this global recognition,” said Mrs. Eva Cheng, Executive Director of OHKF. “Living in a highly networked world with serious information overload every day, we are pleased to be a provider of objective public policy research analysis and recommendations.”
Mrs. Cheng added that the best think tanks today have to do much more than just publishing heavy reports. She remarked, “We analyse issues, engage the public and propose logical, sensible and feasible solutions for the betterment of Hong Kong. Our goal is for Our Hong Kong Foundation to be a ‘Think, Do and Deliver Tank!’”
“The think tank sector plays a crucial role in policy formulations, deliberations and assessments by working together with the Government, politicians and political parties, community stakeholders, and academics,” Mr. Stephen Wong, Deputy Executive Director & Head of Public Policy Institute, OHKF, said. “Our goal is to identify long-term and holistic solutions to the challenges facing Hong Kong, particularly in the areas of land and housing, healthcare and ageing, economic development, innovations, and education.”
