Our Hong Kong Foundation Announces Appointments of Mr Tung Chee-hwa as Honorary Chairman and Mr Bernard Charnwut Chan as Chairman

28 Sep 2023 (Thu)

(28 September 2023, Hong Kong) Our Hong Kong Foundation (OHKF) announced the appointments of Mr Tung Chee-hwa as Honorary Chairman and Mr Bernard Charnwut Chan as Chairman with immediate effect. The appointments were unanimously endorsed by the Board of Governors (the Board) at its general meeting today.

Since founding OHKF in 2014, Mr Tung has given his all to further the Foundation’s mission. Under his leadership and guided by his wisdom, the Foundation has grown from strength to strength and now comprises three key operating units, namely the Public Policy Institute which focuses on public policy research and advocacy; the Academy of Chinese Studies which promotes traditional Chinese culture and tell the stories of today’s and tomorrow’s China; and the Hong Kong Chronicles Institute which takes on the historic mission of compiling Hong Kong’s 7,000 years of history. The Foundation has been making immense contribution to Hong Kong and has been ranked among top 1% of global think tanks.

“Mr Tung’s contribution to the Foundation is unique and we are delighted that Mr Tung will continue his contribution in his capacity as Honorary Chairman of the Foundation”, the Board said.

The newly appointed OHKF Chairman Mr Bernard Chan has a distinguished record of public service in a wide range of capacities, including as a Hong Kong Deputy to the National People’s Congress, Convenor of the Non-Official Members of the Executive Council, and member of the Legislative Council of the HKSAR. Since becoming OHKF Vice Chairman in 2017, Mr Chan has helped to lead OHKF on a path of remarkable success. In 2019, he was invited by Mr Tung to lead Hong Kong Chronicles Institute as Executive Committee Chairman to compile Hong Kong’s first-ever series of chronicles. Mr Chan was appointed as the Executive Vice Chairman of the Foundation in 2022.

The Board is confident that Mr Bernard Chan, with his sterling record of public service and leadership, will build on the Foundation’s solid achievements and lead it to scale new heights in serving Hong Kong and contributing to the country.

In keeping with OHKF’s founding principle laid down by Mr Tung, the Foundation will continue to work closely with all stakeholders to contribute to the long-term and sustained prosperity and stability of Hong Kong under the “One Country, Two Systems” principle.
