In the scenic area of Zhong Shan in the Xuanwu district of Nanjing, the palace resembles a jewelled necklace when viewed from above. According to folklore, the jewel was a gift from Chiang Kai-shek to his wife, Soong Mei-ling. The Meiling palace demonstrates a blend of Chinese and Western architecture embodying within it a part of history.
