Professor Herman Shao Ming HU, GBS, JP

Prof HU Shao Ming Herman, SBS, JP, graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1976 with a Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science. He is the Chairman of Ryoden Development Limited, a property development and direct investment group in Hong Kong and China. 

Prof Hu was appointed by the HKSAR as Justice of the Peace in July 2000, awarded Bronze Bauhinia Star in 2011, Silver Bauhinia Star in 2017 and Gold Bauhinia Star in 2023. He was elected as Member of Hong Kong Election Committee in 2001,2006 and 2011. He has been appointed by the HKSAR to serve as Council Chairman of City University of Hong Kong on Nov 1, 2012 until Dec 31, 2017. 

Prof Hu is a Deputy of the 12th & 13th National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China, Council Member of China Soong Ching Ling Foundation, Counsellor of China-United States Exchange Foundation, Standing Director of Shanghai Chinese Overseas Friendship Association, Honorary President of Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce in China -Shanghai. He is also an Independent Non-Executive Director of i-CABLE Communications Limited, Vice Patron of The Community Chest of Hong Kong and Advisory Professor of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. 

Prof Hu also serves as President of Hong Kong Shanxi Chamber of Commerce, Past President of Hong Kong Professionals and Senior Executives Association, General Committee Member and Mainland China Committee Chairman of Employers’ Federation of Hong Kong, Charter President of Rotary Club of Admiralty, Vice President of Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, Chairman of HKTDC Infrastructure Development Advisory Committee, President of Hong Kong Veterans’ Tennis Association, Honorary President of Hong Kong Cycling Association and Honorary Life Vice President of Asian Tennis Federation, etc.
